Sometimes, you just have to go where the breeze takes you. That’s something that’s become clear to me lately. This summer, I decided to scale back the time I’ve devoted to the blog and simply go outside and enjoy life (with music). So, when it was time for my LYL Radio show, I thought: why not share a listen to some of the things I haven’t had time to cover and offer one last mix of summer-bound music I’ve been enjoying out there on my own?
What you’ll hear is a blend of something new, something old, and a few surprises from left field. Inspired by an old blog favorite – Joachim Witt’s “Cool Down (Song for Lou)” – I wanted to explore a different kind of Balearic-tinged music, the kind of chillout music that defies easy categorization.
When I think of this season, as summer blends into fall, I think of rapid fluctuations in feeling. Days that shift between heat and cold, brisk mornings that turn into humid afternoons. With the idea of seasonality always in my mind when selecting music, I kept finding connections between sound and temporal experiences – how we spice things up to cool things down.
In the end, rather than follow my usual routine, I thought: let’s start cool and heat things up to chill out. As we edge into autumn, let’s dip our fingers into cool waters while cloud-tinged, sunlit skies give way to the final dance of summer’s fading warmth.
