Guest Mix by Giacomo Lee
Editor’s Note: As always, it’s exciting to see what FOND/SOUND readers are listening to and where they are in their own musical journey. Today, I’m pleased to share Giacomo Lee‘s (author of the novel Funereal, music and culture journalist for Long Live Vinyl, VICE, Little White Lies and more) mix of fascinating new wave, electronic, and experimental Pop music. Much like his informative writing on all things Japanese and Korean, Giacomo’s own taste in music is as varied, as it is inquisitive, exploratory, and on-going. This mix gives you just a small glimpse of like-minded gems he has shared via other modes of communication with others, like myself. Be sure to follow him on Twitter (@elegiacomo), if you like what you hear…
Have you ever wanted to reach the end of the Earth? Pytheas thought he did back in 330 BCE, discovering there the point where sky, land and sea converged. A white, viscous substance lay in wait; today we know he was looking out upon icebergs, wholly alien things to his Grecian eyes.
The physical and the spiritual, and all that lies between – the sexual, the otherworldly. The uneasy. These are the sounds of The Sound Fantastic, a soundtrack for when ice thaws and waters run. Bonus points if you know where the opening sample’s from?
